Deal train car cards, destination tickets, and place scoring markers at 0.
Give each player 45 colored train car pieces, a matching scoring marker, and 4 train car cards.
Place 5 train car cards face-up in the center as the visible draw row.
Deal 3 destination tickets to each player; keep at least 2, return 1 face-down to the bottom of the deck.
Shuffle the remaining destination tickets into a draw deck.
On your turn, do exactly one of three actions.
Draw 2 cards from the face-up row or face-down deck. A face-up Locomotive counts as 2 draws if taken.
Play a set of matching colored cards equal to the route length to claim it. Place your trains on that route and score immediately.
Draw 3 destination tickets and keep at least 1. These give bonus/penalty points at game end.
Complete your tickets efficiently, claim long routes for big points, and watch your train supply.
Long routes (6 cars) are worth 15 points β prioritize claiming them before opponents.
Connect tickets that share routes to maximize efficiency.
Watch the board β if an opponent blocks a key city, you may need an alternate path.
The last round triggers when any player has 2 or fewer train cars left. Plan accordingly.
Locomotives (rainbows) are wild β save them for long routes or hard-to-match colors.
Claim a route by playing the exact number of cards matching that route's color. Gray routes accept any single color.
Locomotives are wild cards. A face-up Locomotive counts as both your draws if you take it.
Secret cards showing two cities. Score the bonus if connected at game end; lose the points if not.
When a player has 0β2 trains left, every other player gets one final turn. Then scoring begins.
The player with the most consecutive connected trains earns 10 bonus points.
In 3β5 player games, both parallel routes between cities can be claimed by different players.
