Be the first player to get rid of all your cards.
Shuffle the deck, deal 7 cards each, and flip the top card to start the discard pile.
Shuffle all 108 cards thoroughly.
Deal 7 cards face-down to each player.
Place the remaining cards face-down as the draw pile.
Flip the top card of the draw pile face-up to start the discard pile.
If the flipped card is a Wild or Wild Draw Four, return it and flip a new card. Action cards have special starting effects.
Match the top discard card by color or number, play an action card, or draw.
Play one card from your hand that matches the top discard card by color OR number/symbol.
Play a Wild card anytime to change the current color to any color of your choice.
If you have no playable card, draw one from the draw pile. If it's playable, you may play it immediately. Otherwise, play passes to the next player.
When you play your second-to-last card, immediately say 'UNO!' Forgetting before the next player acts means drawing 4 cards.
Empty your hand first and avoid getting caught with UNO unannounced.
Hoard action cards (Skip, Reverse, Draw Two) and unleash them when opponents are close to winning.
Change the color to one you have many of to chain plays.
Use Wild Draw Four strategically — you can only play it legally when you have no matching color card.
Pay attention to how many cards opponents have. Gang up on whoever is closest to winning.
Don't forget to say UNO! — that penalty can cost you the round.
Reverses the direction of play. In a 2-player game, it acts like a Skip — the same player goes again.
The next player in turn order loses their turn and play continues to the player after them.
The next player must draw 2 cards and forfeit their turn. Can only be played on matching color.
Play on any card. Declare the new color, which the next player must match.
Change color AND force the next player to draw 4 cards and skip their turn. Only legal when you have no matching color card.
Shout 'UNO!' when you play your second-to-last card. Get caught without saying it? Draw 4 as penalty.
